St. John’s Higher Secondary School was established on 3rd June 1991 by philanthropist and educationist Rev.Dr.G.John Peter, MA, MEd, Phd on 8.38 acres of land in Sithanangoor village with two thatched sheds erected. The school was established with the motto of providing quality education to the poorest of the poor, girls and orphan children with a very nominal / no fees. The poor people surrounding Sithanangoor village did not have the privilege to attend school due to high fees structure and distance. The establishment of St. John’s Higher Secondary School opened up education to less fortunate poor, orphan and semi-orphan children and led an education revolution in the district of Villupuram. With the help of donors, now the school provides education from kindergarten to higher secondary and has hostel for poor Boys and Girls, van facility for the nursery school kids to travel safely and a smart class for the school students to learn subjects practically. The school and the founder have been awarded numerous times by NGO’s and District Collector for their education services to the poor.

Our Campus

Our school is located in a sprawling campus of 8.38 acres of land with a playground of 4 acres. It contains physics, chemistry, biology, computer laboratories and a modern smart class facility.We have a separate hostel facility for Boys and Girls with uninterrupted power supply to study and to inculcate good behaviour.

Alternative Education

We concentrate more on providing education through practical manner and alternatively than formal education.Literary Associations give the students more understanding on English and Tamil.Student Parliament grooms the leadership quality of a student.Junior Red Cross, Eco-Clubs, Red-Ribbon Club and Scout activities makes them work for the welfare of the society.

Poor students from 20 village surrounding Sithanangoor are studying in our school. As it is a self-financed school, students pay for their study. Besides if they are a hosteller they have a pay an extra amount apart from school fees. Even though, the school and hostel fees are less, as most of the students come from very poor background, it makes hardship for the students to study in the school. We request / invite philanthropists, charitable foundations, and volunteers to sponsor the students to study.

It is proposed to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the school on 20th February 2016
On the day of the jubilee celebration all the alumni and old staff are invited to participate and honour the function
In this occasion, we will release a souvenir
On the morning of the Jubilee an archgate is erected in the entrance
Separate toilet block for Girls and Boys shall be built for the cost of Rs. 8 lakhs
A new noon meal kitchen and store room for a estimate of 3.5 lakhs

We invite volunteers to work in the school. It can be short term or long term. The volunteer can teach children from LKG to 12th standard depending on the ability, training and experience. They can animate the children, play games and teach morals. Accommodation shall be given in the school campus. Volunteers are expected to pay for their food. French Scouts come to school in the summer for about 21 days. They spend mornings in the manual work and afternoon in the classroom with school students. They work 5 days a week and weekend go to nearby touristic places.
